Tallow is rendered fat from ruminant animals, such as cattle, sheep, and goats. It has been used for generations in everything from cooking and skincare to soapmaking, candle making, and countless other everyday necessities. At BareBone Roots, we use locally sourced, grass-fed beef suet that we carefully render by hand in The Tallow House. It's a simple, versatile ingredient with a long history of practical use.

Long before modern skincare products filled store shelves, animal fats like tallow were used to nourish, soften, and protect the skin. Tallow is naturally rich in fatty acids, including oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids, which help condition the skin and support its natural moisture barrier.

Its rich, emollient texture helps soften dry, rough skin and reduce moisture loss, making it especially useful in balms and moisturizers. When thoughtfully blended with other ingredients, tallow creates a deeply conditioning product without the need for an overly complicated formula.

Properly rendered tallow has a mild natural scent. Our scented products are blended with carefully selected fragrances, while our unscented options retain the natural aroma of their ingredients.
